The first reviews for the Detective Pikachu live action movie are out and... THEY ARE POSITIVE!

We actually have a good video game movie made by a Hollywood studio, in live action no less! Not so-bad-it's-good, actually good!
It is officially the highest rated live action VG movie on several sites and so far those who watched it generally like it.
This is a sign that video game movies can be good if the IPs are given to the right people. There is a future for the genre.

That said I'm looking forward to see it. I will definitely write a case study on DP so I can go through the reasons it succeeded because honestly it deserves it.
That is my plan for this month.

Onward To 2019

6 min read
2018 is coming to a close, and for many that means it's time to reflect on the past 12 months. What has this year brought to you? What have you done to make this year memorable to you? What do you love, and hate, the most about this year? But perhaps more importantly, what has the new year in store for you, and what will you do? I know what I want, but first...

2018 - my summary

For me, 2018 was less exciting/turbulent/life-changing than previous recent years, most things were "just" a continuation of existing things and some planning for what to do in the near future. Nevertheless, I have some stuff to add to my personal history record. I suppose my time on Discord can be considered somewhat noteworthy (even if most of it was just chatting, still more efficient than DA though) - yet another reason I spent less time on DA. Although at least I uploaded something here this year, so that's automatically more activity than in 2017...
Still, I admit I could have done more. I took more times off the internet to organize myself, only to not complete (or even start) everything I wanted. Somet things I simply could not do due to circumstances, others I brush aside for one reason or another. So in theory that should make 2019 better: more things to just finish than start from the ground up. Though nothing is ever guaranteed, I am optimistic.

Summer invasion by heat and sea bacteria

Most of my good time came from simply getting out and experiencing pleasant things. I finally got to see Berlin again (damn, this city has changed a lot since last time) and found some much needed literaturę (mainly for education but I got a few surprises). Summer was extra hot this year (as many people will agree) to the point of some environmental hazards. In my case it was months of heat waves starting in May and lasting to the end of summer. Not only that but Poland's Baltic beaches had a serious case of cyanobacteria so good thing I didn't want a beach trip. I prefer colder climates anyway. Too little rain quickly dried up plants and some beautiful landscapes near home became rather somber. Avoiding the sun was a pain when most days saw few clouds and not enough wind. Nonetheless, my summer was positive for the most part (certainly better than the last 2), so nothing more to add here.

100 years to remember

Then I guess the next important thing in my calendar was 11th November. And this year we went all out. 100 years ago the guns went silent in the west and a global conflict came to an end. It's unbelieavable how far we have come in the last century, and how much time has passed. And of course (for me at least) this also means that 100 years ago this "unique" country situated between Germany and Russia returned to the map of Europe and partook in the course of history once again. This country that I was born in sure has been through a lot in the last 100 years as well. Even I don't know what to think about it at times. Celebrating Independence Day on the same day as commemorating the end of WW1 is always a rollercoaster of emotions to me. Even though I had expected this day to come for years, it still somehow affected me more than I expected. But to keep this short, I am happy to have been able to experience 11.11. 2018 with myfamily and relatives.

Many film surprises, many to see

The last thing I feel venting about is the film surprises of the last months. Avengers 4, realistic Lion King, X-Men, too many to look them all. I definitely will miss out on some of them. But some I just have to see because they have my full attention - priority to Endgame because I know I will see that alot on the internet. Another one is Detective Pikachu! Somehow the trailer for this ridiculous live-action film with its ridiculous premise and characters managed to look not so riduculous after all. Somehow it impressed me, exceeded my expectations and made me want to watch it, because it actually looks good. (Granted I follow Pokemon anyway but even I have my standards!) Also, Pikachu is voiced by Deadpool, do I need to say more?! And it's about time we (hopefully will) get a good and successful live-action adaptation of a video game icon. It's about time this genre starts to realize its potential!
And yeah, in case you haven't guessed it by now, I have zero hope left for the Sonic movie. That poster speaks for itself, and so do the memes.

What's next for me?

Finally, for what I want to do in 2019 (and beyond, probably). First of all, I want to find new stuff to focus on. Looking for games and such that peek my interest and inspire me to write. This will takesome time. I probably will write an article on Detective Pikachu when it comes out. Because even if it turns out to be yet another horrendous game film, it still has taken risks and done things you would never expect from Pokemon, so I am definitely up for writing an analysis of some kind. (Also, I just can't get that thing out of my head!) For Sonic I only have 1 or 2 things in mind, because he just has't been inspiring to me lately. One is a mini timeline and the other is a potential fic if I can outline it. (Edit: wrote a ring case study in stead.) I actually want to focus less on him so I can do other things. (Not that my viewers care anyway, but I don't want to go complete 180 without a warning.) For a long time I have been thinking about RPG and general game concepts/elements and how creators use them. I hope to write case studies and whatnot about them in similar style to how youtubers make analysis videos. I know youtube is a better place for that, but I'm using what I've got. >_>
And with that out of the way, that should be it for that.

So I guess this is the end. Feel free to share your 2018 history if you want. Or just ignore this journal, I accept either option. Happy 2019 to everyone who cares!

2017 is just around the corner and it's time to reflect on 2016 and everything it had to offer.
Some things were terrible. Some things were fantastic. Some things were the usual. Other things were just not worth our attention.

For me, 2016 has been an alright year. Not exactly spectacular but far from the worst thing in existence that I keep seeing people expressing.
I was taught many interesting and important topics in this year's semesters, got to see some wonderful places here in Europe, learned a new language, and got the chance to work as a translator. Unfortunately though, some of them demanded much of my free time, especially in the second half of the year as you have noticed. But in 2017 I will resume my things, already in January actually. I finally got my long awaited pleasant Christmas break and feel ready for whatever crazy and unexpected stuff 2017 has in store!

Speaking of crazy stuff, there are so many things we can talk about regarding this year. So much happened around the world it's hard to grasp it all.

But one thing is certain: This year shall always be remembered for all its ridiculous memes!

Seriously guys, 2016 deserves to be called the year of memes. So many memes were born this year that one can make a long list.
(Harambe, elections, Trump, Mighty No. 9, failed video games, evil clowns, the list goes on and on!)
And some of them are especially hilarious for all the wrong reasons. So many laughs that will forever define this year as a period of unwanted hilarity.

One phenomenon that I personally found entertaining (for ambiguous reasons) was the Pokémon Go fever starting in July. I was abroad at this time, so I had a good place to observe history unfold. So many times people with mobile devices gathered at public places and walked en masse late at night/morning. So many times people bumped into one another and got into various troubles for not paying attention to where they were going or what they were doing. Seriously, some of these accidents can make you question your faith in humanity.

But to end this on a positive note, I think 2016 is better than what I see others claim it is. Some of the bad events are really nothing out of ordinary; they are just overexaggerated by the media and individuals and should be expected to occur again. We all learned important things this year, I know that. Think about the positives some more, everyone! It will make you feel better. Remember this year and learn from it!
Have a pleasant 2017!

2 Years Here!

Already so long...

I almost forgot I made this account today in 2014. Looking back at the past year it doesn't seem things are much different -- few big activities, few new watchers, few noticeable changes -- maybe that's why it came as a surprise to me and I am making this rather short. But the truth is I have come very far, mentally!

This year has been full of personal development and new experiences, many of which I really haven't expressed but want to. My activity has been low-ish because my timetable is ever so spontaneous and I tend to contemplate a lot. But I feel good about it (the latter that is), it pushes my thinking to new boundaries. And as a result I put more thought into my writings. I regard my latest Sonic theory as a lead. That said, I am very happy with the progress of my fanfic (reeeeeally slowly becoming what I want it to be), it's become the memory of my past internet year. ^^

For now that is enough to regard my 2nd year as the best by a long shot. Fewer downsides and mistakes, many valuable lessons learned.

As before, I can't forget to thank my watchers and friends, old and new, for the support. Of my 62 watchers orsoistoppedcaringaboutthenumberlongago there is the few I am very grateful for and think deserve another special mention.

:icontheswordlegion: Your stories and reviews are fantastic and inspiring. We've had some interesting Sonic related theories and character discussions. I hope we can have more discussions when we have more time on our hands. I wish you good luck with your game and stories to be! And also thank you for letting me see your sister's art.

:icontimewalker42: I really enjoy reading Eternal Flames, it's the first fanfiction that heavily uses OCs I read and actually like! I am happy to have found you and come to know a lot about you. Also, a big thank you for letting me co-administer MobiusFictionGuild! (and for using the name I suggested XD)

:iconhypersonicxda: You started my true interest in writing Sonic theories and expanding the universe beyond just canon. It's fun to share Sonic discussions and ideas with you and reading your theories. Good to see your Chaotix shorts are starting to expand into a series(?).

:iconchaosriderv3x: Also nice to have discussions with you when something pops up. And for dropping by occasionally, much appreciated. I see your fanfiction writing is coming along, keep it up!

:iconrangerhunter24: We had some cozy talks in the past when we were new here. You may not be around so much anymore, but I wish you good luck with your studies.

It's been a fun ride since we first met and may the good times here on deviantart continue! :)
